Once an Island Girl: My Mesmerizing Journey to Bohol Island
By Mary
As an island girl at heart, my journey to Bohol Island was nothing short of magical. From the moment I set foot on its shores, I was captivated by the island's natural beauty — crystal-clear waters lapping gently against white sandy beaches. I spent countless hours swimming and snorkeling, marveling at the vibrant marine life just beneath the surface.
My adventure didn't stop at the shoreline. I took the plunge into deeper waters with free diving and scuba diving. The underwater world of Bohol is a mesmerizing realm of colorful corals and diverse marine species — from playful schools of fish to the turtles the island is known for. Each dive revealed something new, both exhilarating and humbling.
Island hopping around Bohol offered a different perspective of its stunning landscapes. Each island we visited had its own charm, from secluded beaches to lush greenery, and every new destination brought a fresh sense of wonder.
During my stay, I experienced the local culture firsthand — fiesta celebrations with lively music and dancing, the warmth of locals and fellow travelers, and the sense of community that comes with island life. One of my favorite moments was simply sitting by the shore, watching the horizon where sky meets sea, a peaceful escape from the everyday.
Evenings were filled with good food, live music from local bands, and the kind of camaraderie that makes a trip unforgettable. The local market was a culinary delight too — fresh seafood, savory grilled dishes, and vibrant produce, all part of a melting pot of travelers and locals enjoying the same table.
My time on Bohol was a journey of discovery, adventure, and connection. If you're seeking a destination that offers both natural beauty and rich cultural experience, Bohol Island is the perfect choice.

An Australian's Adventure in Bohol: From Overwhelmed to Awestruck
By Rob
Having never set foot in the Philippines before, I arrived in the bustling heart of Cebu City and immediately felt overwhelmed by the sea of locals and the noticeable lack of tourists. Despite the initial culture shock, the adventure quickly turned into a deeply enjoyable journey exploring some of the country's most famous tourist hotspots.
The adventure continued with a trip to Bohol Island, which offered a completely different pace and unique experiences of its own. Getting there can mean hopping into cramped mini-vans — a cheap but crowded way to get around. While affordable, the journey can be long with traffic, making private car hire a more comfortable, if pricier, option.
The beaches in Bohol are nothing short of spectacular, with crystal-clear waters and pristine sands. It's worth being cautious when exploring lesser-known beaches, as some can be littered with glass. Seafood lovers will be in heaven with the abundance of fresh catches, though vegetarians and vegans should specify their preferences clearly, since vegetarian dishes sometimes come with unexpected meat additions.
Thankfully, most Filipinos speak fairly good English, making communication easy in more developed areas, though in remoter spots you may occasionally encounter locals who aren't as fluent — just another layer of adventure. For confident riders, renting a scooter is one of the best ways to explore the island without breaking the bank, offering a freedom that car travel doesn't.
And of course, no trip to Bohol is complete without experiencing its breathtaking underwater world. Snorkeling, free diving, and scuba diving are all must-try activities, with plenty of schools offering lessons — scuba diving especially. In the end, Bohol proved to be more than just a destination. It was an adventure full of surprises, beauty, and unforgettable memories.
